I study technological change and economic development in low-income and historical settings, with a focus on agricultural technologies and rural markets. My research examines how public policies and private incentives can shape technology adoption and innovation. In my job market paper, I study the welfare effects of price regulation of technology. I empirically show that regulating prices can facilitate adoption of existing technologies yet deter investment in new ones. Hence, governments face a trade-off between affordability and innovation incentives: policies that make technology cheaper for users may discourage providers from innovating.
